Frequently Asked Questions


The project team wants to be as helpful as possible during the meter installation process. Below are some of the common questions that we receive and their answers.

Question: Do I get to choose whether or not I have a secondary water meter installed at my residence?
Answer: No. Weber Basin intends to install a secondary water meter at every residence in the defined project areas. In order to accurately measure individual secondary water usage in these areas, everyone’s participation is important.

Question: Will Weber Basin begin charging me based on usage once the meters are installed?
Answer: Not at this time. Weber Basin plans on using the data gathered to measure the effectiveness of conservation efforts, make future water need projections and provide you with monthly usage statements.

Question: Do I need to have a personal shut off valve for my irrigation system?
Answer: Yes. A separate, personal shut off valve is an important part of your irrigation system. It is important for you to have the means to shut off water flow to your individual system.

Question: Will the installation affect my culinary (inside water) system?
Answer: The installation will not affect your culinary water.

Question: Will the meter affect water pressure?
Answer: The meter may slightly decrease your water pressure.

Question: Will the contractor restore the landscaping in the installation area?
Answer: Yes. The contractor will restore landscaping in the area affected by the installation. The contractor will likely restore the landscaping on a different day than the meter is installed.
